A boy whose life was dominated by serious illness dies and awakens again as an undead being called End. The new body gives him the strength and freedom he never had while alive, but that freedom is incomplete: the necromancer who revived him treats End as a subordinate under his control. Rather than fear undeath, End sees it as a second chance and begins searching for a way to escape his master and claim the independent life he has always wanted.
