Mira is gravely ill when an undead skeleton called King Terios appears and unexpectedly cures her. Terios continues helping children affected by disease, teaching and feeding them instead of behaving like the monster humans expect an undead king to be. Mira becomes his apprentice in magic while local authorities prepare to treat him as a threat. Terios’s unusual ambition is to build a peaceful dominion without taking human lives, even when the living world assumes conquest and mercy cannot coexist.
