NOT YET OPEN

Part-Time Manga Library Staff

Role nickname: Hall Keeper

As the library nears its opening, we are now looking for a cool person who can help run the library three days a week. Even if our space is tiny and can only hold up to 20 people max, I cannot clone myself to be there all the time. Hence, I'm reaching out to invite you on your baito arc.

If you're expecting this job to be an easy-breezy "I'll just read there hehe" situation, please pause the delulu for one second. You will be around a lot of manga, yes, but this is still a real operations/front desk role with actual tasks, responsibilities, cleaning, customer support, and checklists. The reading perk is for off-shift use, subject to house rules.

Information in this page may change while we're not yet accepting applicants. Best to read this page over again by the time you submit your application.

We'll announce soon once we are ready to accept applicants.

Employment Type One (1) part-time employee
Work Location On-site only
Start Date To be announced
Training Paid training during the first two weeks

Work Schedule

We are looking for someone who can work all three days a week for a total of 23 paid hours/week.

Wednesday 12:30 PM - 8:30 PM 7 paid hours + 1 hour unpaid meal break. Includes opening and closing.
Friday 1:00 PM - 10:00 PM 8 paid hours + 1 hour unpaid meal break. Includes closing.
Sunday 10:30 AM - 7:30 PM 8 paid hours + 1 hour unpaid meal break. Includes opening.
Although pay is computed hourly, this is a scheduled-shift role. Staff are expected to work the full assigned shift unless a schedule change, early leave, or absence is approved in advance.
We are also open to discussing day shuffling, but we require Wednesday, since it is treated as the library's "start of the new week," and at least two of either Fri/Sat/Sun. (So it could be Wed/Sat/Sun or Wed/Fri/Sat.)

Pay & Benefits

₱100/hour during paid training. After successfully completing the training/probation period, the rate increases to ₱150/hour, subject to attendance, reliability, task accuracy, and overall performance.

  • Paid in cash weekly.
  • Paid training during the first two weeks.
  • Commute allowance of ₱200/week.
  • SSS, PhilHealth, and Pag-IBIG contributions, as applicable.
  • Pro-rated 13th month pay, as applicable.
  • Service Incentive Leave after one year of service, as applicable.
  • Optional perk after training: Staff library card with free off-shift reading privileges, subject to house rules. Staff may only check in as a reader when they are not on duty.
  • Optional perk after training: One-time Staff Guild Invite, good for one friend, relative, or guest. Includes waived card/registration fee and 3 starting hour credits, subject to library rules. Not convertible to cash.
  • Optional perk after training: Official digital manga reading monthly subscription reimbursement, subject to approval (VIZ Shonen Jump or MANGA Plus only; up to ₱199/month).
Estimated weekly total after training: around ₱3,650 for 3 days work including commute allowance.
Scope of Work

Front Desk and Visitor Support

  • Greet visitors, explain library rules, and help with check-in/check-out.
  • Process hourly stays, memberships, card scans, simple payments, and receipts.
  • Answer basic questions about membership, rates, Wi-Fi, house rules, app terms, and app scanning.
  • Help monitor seating availability, visitor flow, and waiting guests during busy periods.
  • Manage the library's music during shift.

Books, Shelves, and Reading Support

  • Help members scan books, log reading, and request returns.
  • Reshelve returns properly and shelf-read messy areas.
  • Stamp books, attach library barcodes/labels, and prepare existing library books for circulation.
  • Update basic database/catalog metadata for existing library books, as trained and assigned.
  • Check book records for simple issues such as missing barcode, incorrect shelf/location, missing copy status, or visible damage notes.
  • Report unclear database/catalog issues to the owner or relevant team member instead of making major changes without approval.
  • Watch for damaged books, missing items, noisy groups, and minors' access restrictions.
  • Help enforce house rules, including food/drink rules, photo/video privacy, shelf access, cleanliness, and respectful behavior.

Cleaning and Space Maintenance

  • Keep the front desk/counter area organized, clean, and ready for visitors.
  • Reset reading areas after use, including clearing tables, wiping surfaces, arranging seats, and checking for forgotten items.
  • Complete scheduled cleaning tasks, including daily restroom/kitchen/prep area light cleaning and weekly shelf dusting.

Stock, Equipment, and Supplies

  • Sell bottled drinks, snacks, and merch, and update simple stock counts.
  • Check that basic shift equipment, such as scanners, tablets, counter devices, speakers, and chargers, are working.
  • Report equipment issues as soon as possible.
  • Inform the owner when snacks, drinks, merch, receipt paper, cleaning supplies, or other counter supplies are low.

Communication, Records, and Handover

  • Check and respond to questions sent through the library's communication channels using approved/appropriate replies.
  • Inform the owner or relevant team members about information that needs updating, such as database, marketing, finance, or operations notes.
  • Record incidents, including damage, complaints, lost cards, payment issues, unusual behavior, accidents, or emergencies.
  • Handle lost-and-found items according to library procedure.
  • Complete a simple end-of-shift handover note, including pending issues, incidents, low stock, damaged items, and anything the owner needs to know.

Privacy, Safety, and Decision Limits

  • Handle member/customer information discreetly and avoid sharing private visitor, payment, or reading activity details.
  • Follow basic safety and emergency procedures, and inform the owner immediately about accidents, injuries, emergencies, or suspicious behavior.
  • Use database/catalog access only for assigned library tasks and avoid changing records outside approved instructions.
  • Assist with opening/closing checklists, but will not do solo closing during the first month.
  • Do not make final decisions on refunds, complaints, bookings, penalties, or member issues without owner approval.
  • Assist with other reasonable library/front desk tasks during shift, as trained and assigned by the owner.
Attendance Expectations
  • Although pay is computed hourly, this is a scheduled-shift role. Staff are expected to work the full assigned shift unless a schedule change, early leave, or absence is approved in advance.
  • Because the library has limited staff, reliable attendance is very important.
  • Absences, lateness, and schedule changes must be reported as early as possible.
  • Missed shifts are unpaid unless covered by approved paid leave or another applicable rule.
  • Repeated unexcused absences, tardiness, or no-call/no-show incidents may affect continued employment.
Minimum Requirements & Nice-to-haves

Minimum Requirements

  • Must be 21 years of age or older at the time of application. This role involves handling mature-rated catalog materials, enforcing age-restricted access rules, front desk responsibilities, and closing shifts.
  • Lives near the library (Infront of Brgy. Salawag, Molino-Paliparan Rd., Dasmarinas City, Cavite) or has less than 1 hour commute home.
  • Fluent in English and Tagalog.
  • Has strong reading comprehension.
  • Has sufficient computer/tablet skills and can use basic keyboard shortcuts.
  • Careful with books, shelves, and collectibles.
  • Can politely enforce rules and gently confront unruly patrons.
  • Can handle quiet service work, repetitive scanning, cleaning, and customer questions.
  • No college degree needed.

Nice-to-haves

  • Has broad interest in anime and manga.
  • Seasonal anime knowledge.
  • Has knowledge in gacha games.
  • Comfortable handling and assisting with a wide range of catalog materials, including light novels, BL, GL, mature-rated books, artbooks, magazines, and Japanese books.
  • Customer service and cashier experience.
  • Good memory for regular visitors, names, reservations, and small details from past visits, so guests can feel remembered, welcomed, and taken care of.
