Thirty-four-year-old Nichiko returns to her remote island hometown for the final days of the estranged alcoholic father who shaped much of her unhappy past. There she meets an eccentric young man driven to rescue people and animals at almost any cost, and the two damaged adults begin confronting what care, belonging, and recovery might mean for them.
