Victorian gentlewoman Lizzie Newton wants a life of writing mysteries rather than simply accepting the future society has arranged for her. Her father expects her to marry earnest lawyer Edwin White, but Lizzie is more interested in a suspicious death at the manor. Treating an apparent suicide as a mystery gives her the chance to test the investigative instincts behind her fiction.
