At thirty-nine, salaryman Nozue has settled into a repetitive life of work and sleep and assumes getting older means accepting that nothing much will change. Younger subordinate Togawa disagrees and begins inviting him to experiences Nozue normally dismisses as meant for younger people, starting with a pancake shop. Their outings revive Nozue’s curiosity and gradually reveal that Togawa’s concern for him is more personal than ordinary workplace friendship.
