Yukari sees every human being as a robot, perceiving personality and physical ability as if they were mechanical parts. The strange perspective isolates her from classmates but makes her useful to authorities trying to assess threats. Her closest friend, Gaku, remains devoted to her even when Yukari is recruited by a secret organization and their lives expand into questions involving quantum experiments, alternate possibilities, and what it means to recognize another person as human.
