Tsugumo is given a second life after dying as a fox cub and is reborn with the potential to become a deity. Still inexperienced despite his supernatural existence, he comes under the care of Yoichi, a tanuki who protects the forest as its guardian god. Tsugumo interprets Yoichi’s kindness as love and says so openly, forcing two long-lived beings at very different stages of emotional understanding to consider what their bond actually means.
