In a near-future Japan where bio-printers can create living companion animals, Sato attempts to print a Shiba Inu and gets something entirely unknown instead. The soft, loaf-shaped creature is eventually named Mochimochi, and caring for it becomes a crash course in a life-form nobody knows how to classify. Discovering that other unusual printed companions exist expands Sato’s small household into a community built around the mysteries of bio-printed pets.
