Seventeen-year-old Akane appears to have an ideal life, but nearly every part of it is carefully performed to satisfy a compulsive need to be liked. Her controlled persona begins to fracture when she meets a man named Ai who looks and sounds exactly like the protagonist of her favorite novel. The impossible resemblance draws Akane into a network of other fragile lives and forces her to question how much of anyone’s identity is genuine, chosen, or written for them.
