Nao's got it rough: Already a cringe-inducing, late-blooming loser, things really hit a new low when his girlfriend runs off with another guy. With nothing left to lose, Nao sees an advertisement for the Space Force, the elite military organization that protects the planet from all extraterrestrial threats. It's the perfect place to achieve the one thing he still desires--a cool, inspiring death!
Trouble is, this brand-new ensign is way too good at his job. As the commander of the "Unwanteds," a unit of misfits destined for the front lines, he really ought to have gone out in a blaze of glory by now. So why is it that he keeps surviving? Why is it that everybody thinks he's some kind of hero?! Nao may be ready to die, but is he ready to live and fight another day?
