Ouka Namae is a magician’s pupil who seems unable to feel normal emotion. There is one disturbing exception: certain forms of attachment can break through his emotional numbness, but when they do, the feelings emerge in dangerous ways. His story follows the gap between learning magic and learning humanity, as Ouka’s desire to understand affection becomes inseparable from the harm he may cause when he finally experiences it.
